As the Charity Prefects for the 2024-2025 school year, we organized multiple Charity Events throughout the school year in the SUIS Gubei Community. We are honored to share and represent the spirit of charity within our school community, serving our community with our fervent passions. We are delighted to announce that we successfully raised 115,707 RMB for the charity BaoEn Temple in this academic year.
Pawky Day
Pawky Day, one of SUIS Gubei’s most cherished traditions, has always been our community’s favorite way to spark school spirit and warm hearts. This annual event fuels our community with love and laughter, where both students and staff get a chance to express appreciation in the sweetest way possible – through handwritten postcards and sharing boxes of Pocky. More than just an exchange of treats, this simple yet meaningful tradition creates special moments of connection across all grade levels and departments.
The furry friends displayed on each postcard serve as a reminder that appreciation and care are a universal language that goes beyond the boundaries of our school community. While we celebrate human connections through these notes of gratitude, every meaningful act also raises donations that could ultimately help give the stray cats and dogs a second chance at life. From Pawky Day, we raised over 30,000 RMB for charity.
Winter Bazaar
During the winter bazaar, we coordinated the hot chocolate stand and ring-toss game! Our combined efforts paid off—the stall was a huge success that attracted many people’s attention, drawing numerous customers and lively participation! The success was a shared achievement and It was inspiring to see our collective effort not only raise funds but also bring joy and some great hot chocolate to the community!
Animal Therapy Workshop
In January, we introduced the event Animal Therapy Workshop. We were fortunate to invite the Wu Qi studio to present the Paw For Heal project — a program dedicated to training therapy dogs and promoting their positive impact on mental health and emotional well-being. This event not only strengthened the bond between our school community and our furry friends, but also emphasized the broader societal benefits of such initiatives, from reducing stress and anxiety to fostering empathy and connection.
Beyond the educational aspect, the workshop served as a reminder of the healing power of animals and reinforced our school’s commitment to promoting kindness, inclusivity, and mental health awareness. We look forward to hosting more events like this in the future, continuing to bridge the gap between humans and animals in meaningful ways.
Charity Run
In April, we held our annual Charity Run. Our students and teachers were immersed in the athletic spirit of running while coming together to contribute to charity. As our runners were surrounded by ardent cheers, vigorous music, creative costumes, and a jubilant atmosphere, we also saw their determinance to challenge their potentials and their spirited passion for charity. Through Charity Run, we raised over 20,000 RMB for charity, breaking the 100,000 RMB donation threshold for this academic year.
Shortly after the Charity Run, we set up a Sports Day refreshment stand selling ice-cream, sports drinks, and small snacks, raising profits for charity while reenergizing our students after the energetic sports activities.
Visit to BaoEn Temple
During the May holiday, we visited the BaoEn Temple and conducted a short interview with Zhixiang Master relating to his current ongoing projects and future plans. We watched Zhixiang Master carefully giving medical injections to the sick stray dogs he rescued, and were also charmed by the passionate, adorable dogs running to us in the Temple. From the trip, we further understood the difficulties encountered by BaoEn Temple when providing charitable care and were moved by the spirits of kindness and charitable hearts.
Pet Exhibition
As a wrap-up event for our charity contributions this year, we arranged a Pet Exhibition in May, displaying the adorable pets owned by our students and teachers while showcasing our school culture surrounded by the fervent love for animals and furry friends.
In collaboration with the German Department in the German Week, we also printed multiple interesting German Pet Laws to be pasted around the school as fun facts while raising awareness for animal protection. This final awareness-based event fully concludes our charity events in this academic year, but it is undoubtedly that our spirit of charity will be eternally embedded in our school culture.
Personal Reflections
Serving as a Charity Prefect this academic year has been an immensely rewarding journey. My team and I took an active role in organizing and participating in every charity event, from planning to execution. Throughout the journey, I deeply felt the passion for charity and my perspective evolved—I transformed from measuring success solely by outcomes to cherishing the entire process of bringing these events to life. Through this experience, I came to understand the true essence of charity: it is not defined by the figures on a donation check but by the genuine compassion and enthusiasm we share— the kind that inspires others and creates lasting value. Witnessing our school community uniting together, offering unwavering dedication and kindness in each event, has been profoundly moving.
I will be forever grateful for this truly extraordinary experience, not only for the meaningful work we accomplished but also for the personal growth it fostered in me. The lessons I’ve learned—about empathy, leadership, and the power of collective action—will undoubtedly stay with me long after this year.
Throughout this year, I have learnt that the real meaning of charity never lies solely in donation figures, but also in its capacity to create enduring social value and impact.
Whether through Pawky Day’s gratitude exchange or the emotional connections constructed at our Animal Therapy Workshop, each event has shown me how compassion and love create impacts far more powerful than money could ever do. When a simple postcard raises awareness for stray animals, or when the therapy dogs bring emotional healing, we’re weaving an invisible cloth of warmth—using kindness as the warp and responsibility as the weft—intertwining countless small acts of goodwill into a transformative force that holds our society together.
True charity is where every seed of goodwill takes root, where warmth circulates endlessly, and where scattered beams of light converge to enlighten those in need.
It has now come to the time to say goodbye, looking back this year at all the wonderful events and the astonishing record we created. I would like to say that with no doubt, this year was my best year in SUIS Gubei so far. I enjoyed every single piece of time that I spent with my wonderful colleagues, it was an absolute pleasure working with Amy and Selina. Although the three of us barely knew each other at first, our cooperation in all the different events was, from my perspective, pretty phenomenal. We all had our specialties that came together to compose — what Ms. Li calls us — The ‘Dream Team’. It’s such a shame that this year felt so fast, and with great sadness that it has now come to an end. I would very much want to keep working with Amy and Selina. Nonetheless, all good things come to an end, it is inevitable that we need to keep moving on. Finally, if there was one sentence that I can’t forget throughout this year, it would be — “I am your Charity Prefect Brian Lin from 11SUE”. Wish all the best for us!
Our phenomenal success in Charity this year couldn’t have been achieved without the support from all staff, teachers, our Prefect Advisor Ms Li, and our fellow prefects. A huge shoutout to all of them and also thank you to everyone who supported our events this year!!
