On April 1st, 2026, Shanghai United International School Gubei Campus became a centre of mathematical excellence. Thirteen of our outstanding students earned the prestigious Certificate of Distinction in the Euclid Contest, which is organized by the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing at the University of Waterloo. This achievement places our students among the top competitors worldwide and reflects their hard work, creativity, and perseverance throughout the two-and-a-half-hour competition.
2026 年 4 月 1 日，协和古北迎来数学高光时刻。我校十三名优秀学生在滑铁卢大学数学与计算机教育中心举办的欧几里得数学竞赛中，荣获优异证书。这一成绩让同学们跻身全球顶尖选手行列，也充分展现了大家在150分钟竞赛中付出的努力、创造力与坚持。
The Euclid Contest is one of the most respected high school mathematics competitions globally. However, it is more than just a contest. The purpose of the Euclid Contest is threefold. First, it identifies advanced problem-solvers by challenging students to think creatively rather than memorize formulas. Second, it serves as a key factor for university admissions and scholarships, as the University of Waterloo strongly recommends the Euclid Contest for applicants to its mathematics, computer science, and engineering programs. Top scores are also respected by other leading universities such as the University of British Columbia, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Oxford University. Third, the Euclid Contest builds a mathematical community by bringing together students who love mathematics and encouraging mentorship across grade levels.
The competition lasted two and a half hours, or one hundred fifty minutes, and consisted of ten full-solution problems worth a total of one hundred points. The Mathematics Department at SUIS Gubei provided invigilation throughout the contest, ensuring a fair and supportive testing environment. Students from Grades ten and eleven participated, solving problems in algebra, geometry, number theory, and combinatorics. Unlike a typical school exam, the Euclid Contest rewards clear and logical reasoning through partial credit, meaning that students who made meaningful progress on difficult problems were recognized for their efforts.
欧几里得竞赛是全球最具声望的高中数学赛事之一，其意义远超一场考试。
赛事目标主要有三点：
第一，通过鼓励创造性思考而非机械记忆公式，选拔具备高阶解题能力的学生；
第二，作为大学录取与奖学金评定的重要参考，滑铁卢大学的数学、计算机科学与工程专业均高度认可此项竞赛，高分成绩同样受到英属哥伦比亚大学、麻省理工学院、牛津大学等世界名校的重视；
第三，汇聚热爱数学的学子，搭建跨年级交流与互助平台，营造良好的数学学习氛围。
本次竞赛时长 150 分钟，共 10 道解答题，总分 100 分。协和古北数学组全程监考，保障公平、有序的考试环境。参赛选手为十、十一年级学生，考题涵盖代数、几何、数论与组合数学。与普通校内考试不同，欧几里得竞赛注重清晰严谨的逻辑推理，并实行步骤给分，即便难题未能完全解答，只要思路合理、步骤有效，也能获得相应鼓励。
