This April we celebrated International World Book Day with a range of different events and activities. On April 24th and 25th students had the opportunity to participate in a range of different events and challenges in preparation for International World Book Day itself on April 26th. These included: literary-themed scavenger hunts; quizzes about their teachers’ reading habits; book cover designing; and our ‘Pop-Up Book-Swap Shop’ where they could trade old books in for new ones.
Students who participated in these activities could win Silver and Golden Tickets, which they were able to use to claim a reward from a wide selection of prizes on April 26th. Students were able to win for themselves anything from copies of classic and modern books, to clothing based on novels, to assorted accessories inspired by famous works of literature. The other highlight of the day was the opportunity for students and staff alike to dress up in costume as their favourite literary characters. As a consequence, the day saw characters as diverse as Gandalf, Sun Wukong, The Gilmore Girls and many, many different variants of ‘Wally’ standing shoulder-to-shoulder.
